"The Railway Children" is about three children who move from their city villa to a big yet cold house in the countryside after their father gets sent to prison. They become very poor which is very unfortunate since their mother gets very ill and they can't afford what she needs. The most fantastic thing about living in the country for the children was that at the bottom of the hill where they lived was a railway station which "was very dear to them". In the end of the book everything turned out fine. Their dad came to live with them after being let out of prison because he did not do anything.
I enjoyed this book because I found it really nice that the children tried their best to help their mother and try and distract her from what's happening to their father even though they tried hard not to think what is happening to him. They did not what their father was doing because their mother had said it was about business. There was a bit of a clue when the son called Peter made a trap that worked perfectly on the parlour maid Ruth who boxed his ears and said "If you do that again you will be sent where your precious father has gone."
In this book they also take this lost and ill Russian writer (whose book their mother had read which was about the poor and homeless)into their house and look after him until he gets better. They also look after a boy who falls over in a race on the train tracks under a pitch black tunnel. They took him back to their house until he got better. They also saved a train from crashing which also caused the oldest sister Roberta to faint which definitely caused the train to stop.
Out of 10 I would give it a 8 because there was not enough drama I don't think. The book was very nice to read and I enjoyed it as well.
