Before I Die by Jenny Downham

This book is about a girl called Tessa, who unmasks the tragic news that she has terminal cancer. The main character is Tessa. The book tells of her last rebellious wishes before she passes away. It shows her hope for living at least a little of her short life. I like this book because it allows the reader to experience all emotions in one thrill of a journey. The author makes us realise how fortuitous life is, and how we take some things for granted. This sentimental and touching book will make you happy to be alive.

My Sister The Vampire by Sienna Mercer

In this book there are two sisters who haven't seen each other since birth and when they meet, they realise they are sisters but keep it as a secret and get along with each other. They decide to exchange themselves to see what the other's life is like. I like this book because you can never get bored of it. It makes you want to read more and more - it is always a mystery to guess what's going to happen next, which I think is exciting.

Kiss Kiss by Roald Dahl

'Kiss Kiss' is a selection of Roald Dahl short stories. Each is gruesome, scary, hilarious and ends with a completely surprising and horrifying twist. You can't be bored reading these! The tales stretch from the scary 'The Landlady' and the gruesome 'The Way Up To Heaven' and of course many many more. You could never guess what exciting things happen in each story when you start them but by the end they will leave you completely and utterly shocked. Definitely read this book of short stories - it's great!

The Good Guy by Dean Koontz

Timothy Carrier likes to have a beer every day after a hard day’s work being the “the most skilled mason in town”. It has become his routine - his way of life. But one day after work, he sits in his usual seat drinking his usual beer when an edgy stranger sits down next to him. A misconception leads the stranger to hand him a manila envelope and say to him, “You get the rest when she’s gone”. It becomes very clear that he has been mistaken for someone totally different to himself, someone who needs to make her  go. Before he realises that the envelope contained cash - and a lot of it, a photo of a pretty woman and her address, the stranger had left; too long ago that Tim could ever catch him up.

Everything is about to get worse though. A split second later, another stranger sits next to him. He is the killer who thought Tim was the man who had hired him. Thinking fast, Tim says, “I’ve had a change of heart. You get ten thousand - for doing nothing. Call it a no-kill fee.” He then follows the confident stranger secretly out of the tavern - and surveys the cold blooded killer climb into the driver’s seat of a cop’s car.

Tim now knows that his ordinary life has altered to extraordinary proportions and knows that the encounter may not only cost him his peace of mind - it could cost him his life... but no matter what, he knows deep inside that he has to help this innocent woman and be The Good Guy.

Ruby Redfort: Look Into My Eyes by Lauren Child

This book is about a young genius who wants to save her city from a very serious bank robbery. Her parents are famous bank owners. She is taken on as a spy and must decode hidden messages written by devious criminals. She has not got long; under pressure she must work with her faithful friend to solve the mystery of when the robbery will really happen.

This book is a wonderful crime adventure which takes you on a journey through the life of Ruby. I love this book because it introduces you to a surreal character, who is constantly busy trying to stop evil from happening, as well as having to deal with being a teenager dealing with friendships.

This book is also very engaging because of all the hidden clues and codes that you can figure out for yourself. Overall, I would certainly recommend this book as an absorbing read for when you would like to be sucked into a true adventure.
