Isa and May by Margaret Forster

This book made me laugh out loud, I read it during the summer holidays! It is about the main character’s two grandmothers, as you can probably guess from the title, called Isa and May. In this fictional autobiography, the two grandmothers are very different. For a start, one is stylish and well spoken (Isa).. and the other is…well, cockney, and definitely the sandals and socks type! (May) The main character is in her early thirties and lives with her boyfriend, who won’t reveal anything to her about his family. (Strange!) She then finds out that Isa is keeping a vital family secret from her, and everything gets into a mess! Isa and May are desperate for her to have a baby, because she’s “getting on”, but the main character isn’t so sure…! Lots of family secrets are unravelled and the book becomes unputdownable. I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who likes a laugh (though there are some sad bits). and you might even be able to relate Isa and May to your own grandmothers! by Mimosa Canneti, 8N
