The Hidden Staircase by Nancy Drew

Nancy Drew is an average, happy 18 year old girl, yet not quite normal. She is a girl with a passion for mysteries. The Hidden Staircase is about a seemingly haunted house; strange things have been happening at Twin Elms and Nancy has been asked to solve this mystery. However, at the same time a strange man named Mr Gomber comes to her house, saying her father is in great danger and she must stay by his side at all times... Is he trying to prevent her from going to Twin Elms and solving this suspicious tale? Are these two occurrences related? Is Mr Gomber not what he seems? Where will Nancy's decision take her... her father's life or her gut instinct? A thrilling adventure where one girl's decisions can change everything, jeopardising the lives of people she loves.

This adventure is told in an old-fashioned way, yet with a modern twist, filling it with gripping excitement for all ages. I enjoyed this book because it isn't quite what it seems. Normally a book like this wouldn't appeal to me, however this is a great example of 'DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER'. The suspenseful, intriguing plot keeps you from putting down the book and the questions you're left with let you create a whole new story of your own.

Blood Ties by Sophie McKenzie

This book was gripping at every page and gave you that feeling of, I want to find out what happens but I don’t want it to end.

Sophie McKenzie never fails to bring dark romance, discoveries of personal past and spine-tingling murders together in one book. Blood Ties is an emotional, frightening and modern novel about Theo, a boy who is curious to dig into his past despite his overly protective mother and wants to find out about his who ‘died’ in the firebombing of a Genetic Research Clinic. To avoid and extremist group who will stop at nothing to silence Theo and his friend Rachel, they both must escape with the help of Rachel, himself and other people who could be on their side. But how do they know if they are good or bad?...
